Although antidepressant medications and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), alone or in combination, are considered effective treatments for depression [1], up to 30% of patients show no improvement or only a partial response [2]. Preliminary data support the efficacy and good tolerability of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in the acute treatment of patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) [3].
